We were at the Arizona Tile store to look at their brand new- amazing line of wood-look floor tiles, and I didn't like the new amazing line. It was cool looking, but not what we were going for. While we were there we found a few other things we liked. They had this tile (Eclipse Beige) in a wall display, and I loved it, so I think we're going to do this for our master shower. It will have a line of accent tiles around it too, (that we haven't picked out yet) but we're thinking we'll have them match the decorative tiles in the floor.
We're thinking this one (Skylights Cafe Melange) as the backsplash in the kitchen, but we're not sure yet, since we didn't have a sample of the granite to see if it looks too busy. We may end up going with something simpler.
The floor tile for the kitchen and living room (and maybe the master bedroom) is from Daltile (Timber Glen Espresso). The website had a picture of it installed on the floor, but a really light grout was used and it looked terrible. If you're going to install tile that is supposed to look like wood, don't use a light grout.
We still need to pick tile for the bathroom floor and accents, and the laundry room and maybe our bedroom. but it's starting to feel like things are coming together. I'm deating wether to go with something like this (Marazzi Montagna Belluno) for the shower and floor accent tiles (except these are 6x6 and I think that would be too big for the floor- it would work for the shower...)
Or, do I go with something more stone looking with more color. Too many decisions...
We got rid of the cheap linoleum in the downstairs several years ago. I really liked the tile pattern at granny gator's but nt the tile it's self. So the mister brought home tons of samples of tile. I couldn't tell on tile from another but hubby's artistic eye could. I let him pick what he wanted, tile that looks like slate and varies in color from dark dusty blue to grey to brownish tones. He said "no two tiles in a box are exactly the same" so I envisioned a natural stone look for the new flooring. When he brought the grout samples home he had chosen a nice light blue grout to match one particular shade in the tile. I took one look at that grout and said "Absolitely not. In a few months that blue will look filthy and we'll never be able to clean it back to the right color. We're using dirt color grout."
ReplyDeleteWhen the installer came to put the tile in I was at work. I came home from work and there was about a dozen tiles laid in the center of the dining area, much more of a multi-color statement than I had invisioned (which is why I leet the hubby chose it, I can't envision what things look like before they are done). I said, to the installer "That's not what I pictured at all!" He looked up at me, while buttering a tile and said "Too late now"LOL. When I came home the next day the whole floor was in to the walls with the dust boards reinstalled (natural oak) and it looked wonderful! Best upgrade I've gotten done. Now we just have to put in new countertops and a new sink and almost all the things I had to save money on when building will be taken care of! (almost all the cheap interior hollow core doors, the 17 year old inexpensive carpet has been replaced with 7/8' solid oak, the wood porch steps replaced with cement, the old porch deck replaced with the same tile as in the downstairs...)
