More Electrical Work

We didn't get pictures of everything today, but Kyle solved a few wiring issues, finished up the fans in the bathrooms, and most of the rest of the lights.  I put faceplates on.  I've done all the ones that are low enough for me to reach so there's just a few high ones in the house, and the ones in the garage that aren't done yet.  Kyle also wired the back porch lights, the fan on the back porch, and about half of the lights inside the garage.  He also did the front porch and garage door lights (which I did get pictures of).

New lights at the garage doors.

Front door.

Close up of the front door lights.  The garage lights are the same, but bigger.

That's me on the porch.

Another Electrical Post

I forgot to post this picture of the reading lights in the master bedroom in the last post.

The little fan up in the cooling chimney.

Family room fan.  I don't like the glass shades on this one, so I will probably swap them out at some point.

Kyle put these lights in tonight.  Right now they're on a switch, but eventually there will be a sensor so when someone walks by they'll turn on.

The lights are all installed in the basement.  I need to finish putting covers on a few plugs and switches, but it's almost done.  We also need to have the drywall guys come back to repair some drywall that had to be cut out to fix a few problems, but everything is working and powered now.  Being able to turn on lights to work is a luxury.

Upstairs there are just a few places we're holding off on lights because we want to make sure we have them centered over the cabinets.

Last week Kyle's brother C came over and helped him lay the tile in the kid's bathroom.  It went really fast, and looks great.

Tonight I took the kids to the school for a movie night.  When I got home and got the kids to bed, I went out to see how Kyle was doing.  He had gotten quite a few lights up, including the wall reading lamps in our bedroom.  They were Ikea lights meant to be plugged into an outlet.  Kyle rerouted the wire so they could be hardwired.

These are the chandeliers that I spray painted (they used to be black and now they're bronze).  I assembled them and they will hopefully go up tomorrow night.  While he was wiring lights, I went around and put covers on light switches and plugs.

Paint and Electrical Progress

Half of the great room upstairs and E's room is "Napery".  We got the first coat on.  The second coat will hopefully go up on monday.

I don't think Kyle was super excited about my idea to paint one wall up in the cooling chimney, but he went along with it.  He's a good sport (and a good climber).

We taped off the stripes in the boys' rooms downstairs.

We put the second coat of gray on last night.

Kyle and I both did a little wiring.  This is one of the plugs I did.

Kyle got some lights up in the storage room. It's amazing to have lights that turn on with a light switch. Now just picture this room full of food storage and a freezer.

Electricity and (a little) painting

We have a power meter.

This is the only time is will read 00000, because today Kyle hooked up the furnace and a couple of plugs, so now our furnace isn't being run off of an extension cord from my parents house.

Because we're so far away from the street we have this (box in the ground) transformer.

Kyle wired two plugs in the storage room so that we could plug in a vacuum, a light and a radio.  The two lights show that it's wired correctly.  Phew.

Vacuuming the dirt in the storage room.

First coat of paint in the storage room.

Hopefully two coats will do it.  The cement is pretty bumpy.

In other news, the drywall is done, and we've met with the finish carpenter.  He'll have a bid for us by tuesday, and after he gets started he'll be done in three days.  Then we can paint everything, and lay tile.   After several days of snow, it cleared up today, and I stood in the house in front of the windows and enjoyed the warmth.  I could almost picture being moved in, it's getting closer.

Rock and Stuff

It doesn't seem like anything major is happening right now, but the little things continue to move along.  Here's what's going on right now...

Kyle is still working on the electrical.  It's taking a long time, but he's plugging away at it.  I'm sure he'll be even happier when it's done than I will be.

The support for the fireplace is in.  Kyle also framed inside of it, it will be a  second small closet of sorts for A, since his room has the smallest closet.  The support will have a slab poured over it.  Then we'll wait until we sell our old house to actually put the fireplace in.  That will be really nice.

I love my front door...

The gas lines are all run.  We have a gas water heater and dryer and this gas line for the cooktop, and a gas line run to the patio for the BBQ grill.

The rock is getting close to being done.

Close up of the rock- this is the east side of the house.

Kyle put some supports down through the floor into the joists so that when he builds the stair railings, they're sturdy.

The trench for the water line got filled in, so we're waiting for one more utility to come and lay their line, then we'll be ready for the driveway (although I think we have to get the drywall delivered before we can pour the driveway, and we need to get the electrical done and have the 4-way inspection, and the insulation done before the drywall can come, so hopefully all that stuff happens soon while we have such nice weather.
